Trying to test Hamachi

I just installed Shimo, I wanted to see if it could connect to our Hamachi network. Unfortunately when I try to add a Profile for Hamachi, everything is greyed out and actually the only option available is PP2P/L2TP (which isn't useful for me at all). I'd like to buy this software but without being actually able to connect to the network I want, that's going to be a gamble. Hope that I'm just missing a step here...

VPN stops to work after some time

Hi,

I just bought Shimo.
I configured a PPTP tunnel to a Windows 2003 server. The connection works fine.

Now, after some idle time (<5minutes), packets are no longer routed over the VPN (ping for example). After an undtermined time (minutes), it sudenly works again. The VPN is never droped, it's only the packets that are no more routed over it...

Same problem with OSX 10.5 or 10.6. iMac G5, MacBookPro, iMac 24"...

If I ping constantly a host on the remote site (kinda of "keep alive"), the connection works fine for ever. So I enabled the advanced preference to maintain the line active, but it won't change anything.

And yes, the VPN server works fine with any version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7), so it's some where on OSX's side that a kind of disconnect happens, why and how avoid this??

Can't connect to Cisco anymore

Shimo was working great for me, but a few days ago stopped and I can't figure out how to troubleshoot.

I have an oldish Cisco client installed: 4.9.01. I have a profile that my company sent out with the client, and I can connect fine directly with the Cisco client and until last week was able to connect fine from Shimo too. Unfortunately now Shimo doesn't appear to be even attempting to connect, either on the automatic network trigger or manually from the menubar icon.

Here's an exception I'm seeing in the system console log:

If I go into Advanced preferences and click the Restart API button I see a dialog titled "Error Message" with this text:

"Shimo has experienced a communications failure. Please check your network connections and already running vpn applications."

Here's what I see in the console log:

Any ideas what might be wrong? Any help much appreciated, I really want to start using Shimo again!!!

"Seconds" stepper in Advanced Preferences increments the wrong field

I just noticed that in the Connection settings of the Advanced Preferences pane for Shimo 2.2.2 (419), clicking the "Seconds" stepper does not increment or decrement the text field next to it. Instead, it toggles the "Automatically reconnect on network changes" check box. I'll wager that's a mistake -- it should adjust the value in the text box instead.

Required to buy Shimo, as could not seem to continue past the Buy now pop-up. Tried to setup the hamachi config profile and attempted to connect. Nothing happened. Tried to cancel but Shimo hangs. How do you kill the process?

I've just installed and licensed Shimo2 and I added a vpnc profile. In the course of trying to get the connection to work I removed it. Now I can't add any profiles other than PPTP/L2TP.

Does anyone know what's happening?

2 days ago I tested Shimo without a problem. So I bought the licence and used shimo the whole day. Yesterday morning, I tried Shimo again and suddenly the vpn connection "stuck". I didn't get a connection to my VPN Host. I tried several times and after the third time I got a connection (to a Netgear UTM). The connection was stable. Yesterday night I disconnect and wanted to reconnect. Nothing happened! I wasn't able to connect, so I tried millions of different settings (like changing the direct host IP, changing options, etc.). Then I uninstalled Shimo and reinstalled everything. After a lot of testing I had another problem. The "preshared key" couldn't be saved anymore. I enter the key and after hitting the ok button, the key is gone. There is also no psk.txt created in /Users/XXX/Library/Application Support/Shimo/psk.txt. I tried to recover the psk.txt with time machine. But after I entered a new key in my VPN-profile, the key is gone and the psk.txt is deleted.
Hope somebody could help.

Holding the Connection

I use a Mac running 10.6.2 over a cable modem setup at 25Meg.
My internet is VERY stable - haven't lost the signal in months.
I set up a VPN network using Network Preferences but had real problems holding the VPN connection for more than 10-15 minutes before the VPN was dropped . I thought Shimo would be more stable but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there something I should do, either to Shimo, the VPN setup or the Airport setup to hold the connection longer?

Getting Rid of the Nag Screen

I am new to mac and new to shimo so this may be operator error but... I have purchased a license. I drag the license info into the nag screen as directed but nothing happens and I can't stop the nag screen from popping up whenever I use Shimo. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Does anyone know how to setup Shimo to mimick what the NetExtender.app SSL VPN client for SonicWall does and/or where to find/import the configuration it uses?

How to end a VPN connection when switching network location

Hi,
I'm a little bit lost in the Shimo settings. Just installed it today and configured it. I have a VPN network location and a non-VPN location.
Switching to the VPN location successfully enables VPN connection via Shimo. However, switching back to the non-VPN location does NOT disable the VPN connection.
Any help appreciated.

I have converted my 3 Cisco profiles (which are working fine) to VPNC, without any additional modifications.
When I try to connect using any of them, Shimo hangs indefinitely. I've attached all of the pertinent log output.

Any help appreciated.

SSH Tunnel

I am trying to use Shimo to create a ssh tunnel. I am currently using SSH Tunnel and it works fine. I don't see a way to follow a verbose logging to see what is happening. It does not seem to connect.

I do "ps -ef | grep ssh" and I don't see the tunnels being created.

is there a help document? I cannot find one.

Shimo Update Utility

Every time I launch Shimo, it presents the update dialog telling me it needs to install kernel drivers and a helper tool, even though these are already installed. Is there a way to inform Shimo that these are already there?

unable to resolve server address

using shimo for some years now, but it starts to bug me, that after some hours of usage (with openvpn connected to a Cisco-HW-VPN) it disconnects, sometimes it's able to reconnect automatically, sometimes it is not. If it gives up with the above mentioned error, I have no other way (found yet) as to reboot my Mac.
Is there at least a workaround, how to "reset" shimo to a state, where it can connect, without rebooting?
Config: Mac OS X 10.6.2, Shimo 2.2.2, openvpn

I imported my OpenVPN connection and that seemed to set everything correctly. However when I try to connect I get the message "Shimo could not find the necessary key file for this connection or it is invalid..." I reselected the cert in the profile. This is a self-signed cert - is that a problem? This cert works fine for Tunnelblick.

OpenVPN problems with Snow Leopard sleeping

I've recently started using the openVPN implementation in Shimo. I'm finding that it does not close the openVPN connection when Snow Leopard sleeps. When I resume the computer I have to close Shimo, physically kill openVPN from a shell, then restart Shimo. Is this normal behaviour? If not, can anyone offer any solution? Thanks.

Shimo suddenly stopped working

The profile creation goes fine, but upon Connect of OpenVPN profile I get the following error:

"General Error Cannot allocate TUN/TAP dev dynamically"

What more info do you need?

I was wondering if you have details regarding the component integration of Hamachi (LogMeIn's zero config VPN) under Shimo 2.x? I installed your current release (v2.2.2) and Hamachi does not seem to function at all! I then completely removed Shimo and re-installed, but still get nothing. Several other VPN protocols seem to generate configuration dialogs that a user might fill in to make a connection. When selecting Hamachi, the Shimo app just sits there like a deer staring into headlights... What's up?

Snow Leopard Native VPN Support for Shimo

When will Snow Leopard Native VPN Support be available in Shimo? I know this question had been asked multiple times (at least 3 that I know of) in the old support ticket system, but I never really saw a "clear" answer (besides saying Shimo 3.) Sorry to be a pest, but it's been many months since the SL release and it still doesn't work.

To be more specific, I'd really like to have Shimo handle my passwords for logging in rather than having to manually type them in all the time given the complexity requirements set by my corporate administrator.

Hi,
We do not yet have a real VPN system at work so I use SSH port forwarding to access internal services. Some of the web services are running as virtual hosts meaning the same server can serve more than one site and differentiating them by the hostname you access them by.
These sites are not exposed to the outside world so you cannot resolve the hostnames unless you are actually inside our network. It would be really cool if there was an option in the SSH section to add temporary hostnames connected to 127.0.0.1. That way I can forward port 80 remotely to port 80 on my machine while at the same time the system adds for instance "developer.domain.tld 127.0.0.1". As it is now I have all these in my /etc/hosts file and have to remember to comment them out when I bring my laptop to work.

Other than that I think Shimo is an awesome product making a previously laborious job very easy for me.

SSH Tunnel for MySQL Connection fails

Hi,
I am trying to establish a SSH tunnel with Shimo 2.2.2 (419) with no success.
Although Shimo connects to the remote server I can not establish a MySQL connection from my local machine.
I tried various combinations in Shimo (Port Forwarding -> Remote Port: 3306, Local Host: 127.0.0.1, Local Port:3308) to get the MySQL connection work, but all return with:
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 61
ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (61)

When I establish the tunnel manually in Terminal everything works fine:
ssh -L 3308:127.0.0.1:3306 myuser@remoteServersIP

I guess I missunderstand something in Shimos Port Forwarding GUI.

Since moving to Snow Leopard and having removed the Cisco VPN client binaries in /etc/opt/vpn-client I've been having problems reconnecting to the VPN *after* enabling/disabling _Back to My Mac_ .

This is what I get in the logs:

Error with Anyconnect

When trying to connect to an AnyConnect vpn I get no connection in shimo and I also get a message in the console log stating:

Shimo[25435] HIToolbox: ignoring exception '*** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (7) beyond bounds (7)' that raised inside Carbon event dispatch

I can send the full message I but I figured its not worth bloating a post with a stack trace.
